China Southern Power Supply Breaks 20 Billion in Electricity Supply to Macao

Since July 1, 1984, when Zhuhai began supplying electricity to Macao, China Southern Power Grid has delivered over 20 billion kilowatt-hours of power to the region as of December 20, 2012. The total reached 200.03 million kWh, with an estimated 3.85 billion kWh supplied in 2012 alone—an increase of 21.6% compared to the previous year. This marked more than a 20-fold growth since Macao's return in 1999, accounting for nearly 90% of the territory’s total electricity consumption. China Southern Power Grid has always prioritized reliable power supply to Macao, fulfilling its responsibilities and maintaining a 100% power reliability rate for 29 consecutive years. This unwavering commitment has played a vital role in supporting political stability and economic development in Macao. To ensure continuous and secure power delivery, the company has implemented several key measures. First, it has significantly expanded the power transmission infrastructure. Projects such as the two-circuit 110 kV Nanao-Gongao line have been completed, and this year, the Zhuhai Qinyun to Lotus 220 kV double-circuit (cable) line was launched. Currently, five 220 kV lines are primarily used for power supply, while four 110 kV lines serve as backup, forming a "double insurance" system. This has boosted the power supply capacity to 900,000 kW. Second, the grid has enhanced operational and maintenance efforts for the cross-border power channels. By establishing a collaborative repair mechanism with the Macau Electric Power Company, organizing cultural exchanges, and strengthening regular cooperation, the company ensures the safe and stable operation of the power network. Third, a normalized power protection mechanism has been established, including regular joint anti-accident drills. These initiatives help guarantee uninterrupted power supply during major events in Macao, further reinforcing the region's energy security and stability.
