"How to Choose Stair Treads
Stair treads, also known as steel ladder treads or ladder steps, are essential components used in steel grating systems. Depending on how they're installed, there are typically two types: welded and bolted. These treads are primarily designed for use on steel ladders, which is why they’re often referred to as stair treads.
(1) Based on installation methods, stair treads can be either welded or bolted. Welded treads are standard steel grating designs that are permanently fixed. Bolted treads require additional 65x5mm flat steel side plates to be attached to the steel grating for stability.
(2) Depending on whether they have anti-slip features, stair treads come in two main varieties: those with front guard plates (which may feature patterned or grooved steel) and those without. For safety purposes, we highly recommend using stair treads with front guard plates. There are four primary types of stair treads: T1, T2, T3, and T4.
The T1 tread is the most basic and cost-effective option. It consists of load-bearing flat steel and crossbars spaced apart at the flanges. Typically, this type is welded directly onto the steel grating and then hot-dip galvanized. Its affordability makes it a popular choice among steel grating customers.
The T2 tread is similar to the T1 but features side plates that are bolted on both ends. This design is commonly used on steel ladders and offers easier installation compared to welded options.
The T3 tread builds upon the T1 model by adding a protective front guard along the length of the flat steel. The anti-slip front guard is usually made from patterned steel, enhancing the tread's slip-resistance and overall safety.
The T4 tread combines the best features of both the T2 and T3 models. It includes an anti-slip front guard and mounting slots, making it the most versatile product in its category. While welded treads are permanently fixed to the ladder beams and don’t require extra side plates, they are more economical and durable but harder to remove if needed. Bolted treads, on the other hand, require thicker side plates with pre-drilled holes, allowing for direct bolt fixation. This makes them reusable and adjustable to fit different stair configurations. Customers can customize these treads based on their specific requirements, choosing appropriate steel grating types to create various sizes that perfectly match their stairs."
