"How to Select Stair Treads
Stair treads, often referred to as steel ladder treads or ladder grating, are specialized grating plates designed for use on steel ladders. Depending on the installation method, these treads typically come in two main types: welded and bolted versions. Their primary purpose is to provide a safe and sturdy surface for climbing steel ladders, hence they're commonly known as stair tread plates.
(1) Based on how they’re installed, stair treads can be either welded or bolted. Welded treads are standard grating panels that are directly fixed onto the structure, while bolted treads require additional side plates—typically 65x5mm flat steel pieces—to secure them to the grating.
(2) Another way to categorize these treads is by the presence of anti-slip features. Some treads have anti-slip strips or textured plates at the front edge for enhanced grip, while others don't. For safety reasons, we highly recommend opting for treads with anti-slip features. There are four main types of stair treads available: T1, T2, T3, and T4.
The T1 tread is the most basic and cost-effective option. It consists of load-bearing flat steel bars spaced apart and welded together with crossbars. This type is typically hot-dip galvanized after welding and is popular among customers due to its affordability.
The T2 tread is similar to the T1 but features side plates that are bolted on both ends for easier installation. These are commonly used on steel ladders where quick assembly is required.
The T3 tread builds upon the T1 design by adding a protective front guard, usually made from textured plates. This addition enhances the slip resistance of the tread, making it safer for use in environments where traction is critical.
The T4 tread combines the features of both T2 and T3 treads. It offers both anti-slip front guards and installation slots, making it the most versatile option. The welded treads are directly welded to the ladder beams, eliminating the need for extra side plates, which makes them more economical and durable but harder to remove if needed. On the other hand, bolted treads require thicker side plates with pre-drilled holes for securing the treads using bolts. This allows for easy disassembly and reuse. Customers can customize their treads according to specific requirements, choosing from various steel grating types to create treads in different sizes that perfectly match their stairs."
