On December 13, Qinghai Electric Power Company officially launched its first soft-switching equipment, marking a significant milestone in the company's adoption of next-generation network technology. This advancement represents a new chapter in the development and application of softswitch technology within the region.
Softswitch technology is a core component of modern communication networks. Unlike traditional systems that require separate infrastructure, it operates by integrating with the existing local area network, reducing costs and increasing flexibility. It also simplifies management, supports personalized services, and enables the easy introduction of new features like intelligent call routing and enhanced user experiences.
Before the implementation of the softswitch, Qinghai Electric Power’s administrative exchange network had a single-node star topology. The existing tandem switch network was limited in capacity, lacked redundancy, and couldn’t support detour networking, which posed risks to network stability. To address this, Qinghai ICT Co., Ltd. carefully planned and executed a transformation project. They introduced a softswitch as a tandem switch, successfully connecting it with the original network, power companies, and the public telephone system. This allowed for "load sharing and circuitous networking," upgrading the network structure from a single-node star to a two-node star configuration, significantly improving reliability and security.
The softswitch used in the project is Huawei’s SOFTX3000 model, capable of handling 48 relay directions. It supports up to 2,000 analog subscribers and 300 multimedia users. Users can access the system through traditional phone lines, IP networks, or fiber-optic connections, enabling long-distance communication. Additionally, the system can integrate with third-party servers to offer value-added services such as Call Return Before Talk (CRBT), Only service, voicemail, and more. These services allow users to personalize their experience, including customizing ringtones and other preferences.
The project started on October 22, 2012, and was completed with the commissioning of the switch network on November 30. On December 13, an expert panel approved the system, and it was officially put into operation. With this launch, Qinghai Electric Power has significantly enhanced the safety and stability of its administrative exchange network, better meeting the growing demand for reliable and advanced communication services. This marks the beginning of a new era for softswitch technology in Qinghai.
