Before using a hydraulic freight elevator, take some time to thoroughly review the instruction manual and any safety guidelines provided. This will help ensure that you understand how the equipment works and what precautions need to be taken. Each user organization should assign a specific individual to operate the lift. Based on your unit’s particular setup, outline detailed safety measures and precautions for operating the lift, and display these prominently in an easily visible location. Operators must complete training and pass assessments prior to handling any lifting or lowering tasks.
Every morning, before beginning work, the operator needs to conduct a thorough inspection of the lift's electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Run the platform up and down a few times to identify any potential issues or abnormalities. Pay special attention to the precision of the platform's stopping points—any significant gaps could indicate problems that need addressing.
When preparing to operate the lift, make sure to close the movable gates on both sides of the guardrails before starting. Never perform lifting operations with the guardrail gates open. In case of emergencies while the platform is moving, the emergency stop switch can be used, but it should not be relied upon for regular stops during normal operation.
During operation, the operator should monitor the distribution of items placed on the platform to avoid overloading and ensure that loads are spread evenly. The lift should never transport flammable or explosive materials. It’s crucial to prevent anyone from riding on the platform during operation, and no one should approach the work or lifting zones.
Operators are not permitted to leave their post without first turning off the power, locking the control panel, and completing a shift handover log. Wiping, lubricating, or attempting repairs while operating the lift is strictly prohibited.
If the lift malfunctions or doesn’t function correctly, contact maintenance staff right away. If there’s a risk of mechanical failure or injury, stop the lift immediately, disconnect the main power supply in the control room, and inform management. The lift can only be put back into service after thorough repairs and inspections.
