British plastic safety helmets for environmental recycling

The British construction company Morgan Sindall has taken a proactive approach in sustainability by collaborating with 2K Manufacturing, a leading plastic recycling firm. Together, they have successfully reclaimed over 4,000 safety helmets from abandoned construction sites. These discarded helmets were then transformed into an innovative, eco-friendly product known as EcoSheet, which is now being deployed across construction sites throughout the UK.

Located in Luton, UK, 2K Manufacturing played a key role in this initiative. The company repurposed the waste helmets—originally used by Morgan Sindall—into high-quality, sustainable plywood. This effort not only reduced waste but also contributed to a greener construction industry. Morgan Sindall, which was formed earlier this year through the merger of the construction and infrastructure divisions of the Morgan Sindall Group, had to replace more than 4,000 helmets bearing company nameplates. Rather than disposing of them, the company chose to partner with 2K Manufacturing to give these items a second life.

"Our breakthrough technology allows us to breathe new life into the four million helmets produced in the UK every year," said Peter Schwarz, sales manager at 2K Manufacturing. "EcoSheet is not just a product—it's a step toward a more sustainable future for the construction industry."
