British construction giant Morgan Sindall has taken a proactive approach in sustainability by collaborating with 2K Manufacturing, a UK-based plastic recycling company. As part of this initiative, over 4,000 safety helmets were recovered from abandoned construction sites and repurposed into eco-friendly materials.
In Luton, UK, 2K Manufacturing successfully transformed the discarded helmets into an innovative product called EcoSheet—a sustainable form of plywood that is now being deployed across construction sites nationwide. This move not only reduces waste but also supports the growing demand for green building solutions.
Morgan Sindall was formed earlier this year through the merger of the construction and infrastructure divisions of the Morgan Sindall Group. With the new entity came the need to replace more than 4,000 helmets bearing old branding. Rather than disposing of these items, the company chose to partner with 2K Manufacturing to give them a second life through recycling.
"Our breakthrough technology allows us to breathe new life into the four million helmets produced in the UK every year," said Peter Schwarz, sales manager at 2K Manufacturing. "EcoSheet is not just a product—it's a step toward a more sustainable future."
