Solenoid valves come in various types, each serving a unique function within a control system. Common types include check valves, safety valves, directional control valves, and flow control valves. Understanding the role of each valve is essential for proper selection and installation.

Proper installation of a solenoid valve is crucial for safe and efficient operation. Follow these key guidelines to ensure correct setup:

1. Before installation, carefully read the product manual to understand specifications, installation requirements, and any special considerations. This helps prevent errors and ensures optimal performance.

2. Verify that the nameplate data matches the product’s specifications. Ensure the power supply voltage falls within the acceptable range—AC: +10% to -15%, DC: +10% to -10%. Avoid opening the coil assembly unless necessary, as this can compromise performance.

3. Flush the piping with a pressure of 0.3 MPa before connecting the solenoid valve. This removes debris such as metal shavings, residue, and rust, preventing blockages and damage.

4. Maintain clean media flow. If the fluid contains dust or impurities, install a filter with a mesh size of at least 60 to protect the valve from clogging or malfunction.

5. Avoid installing the solenoid valve in low-lying areas of the pipeline. Instead, place it on the discharge side of the container. Ensure it is installed at the bottom of the container, not removed from the base.

6. If the medium may cause water hammer, select a solenoid valve designed to handle this condition or implement additional measures to reduce its impact.

7. A steam trap should be installed on the steam inlet side, with the nozzle angled appropriately to ensure proper drainage and prevent condensation buildup.

8. Most solenoid valves are directional and must be installed according to the flow direction indicated by the arrow on the valve body. In some cases, especially in vacuum lines or special applications, the manufacturer may recommend alternative orientations.

9. The electromagnetic coil should generally be mounted vertically on a horizontal pipeline. If space constraints require different positioning, such as in a vertical or inverted orientation, make sure to specify this during ordering. Some models have specific installation instructions, so always refer to the manual.

10. When using threaded connections, avoid overusing sealing materials. Apply Teflon tape starting from the second thread, and chamfer the end of the pipe to prevent excess material from entering the valve’s internal components, which could cause malfunctions.

11. Ensure there is enough space around the valve for regular maintenance and inspection. This makes future servicing easier and reduces downtime.

12. Use a wrench or pipe wrench to secure the valve body before connecting the piping. Never apply force directly to the electromagnetic coil, as this can cause deformation and affect the valve’s operation.

13. If the pipeline lacks sufficient rigidity or if water hammer is expected, install a bracket to support the valve before and after the connection point.

14. In cold environments, insulate the piping or use a heater to prevent freezing, which could damage the valve and lead to failure.

15. After installation, check for leaks at the valve itself and its connections. A leak can cause operational issues and reduce the lifespan of the valve.

16. Inspect the coil wiring connections, especially for three-wire systems, to ensure they are secure and properly connected.

17. Electrical components like relays, switches, and contactors should be checked for stability. Vibrating contacts can lead to unreliable operation and shorten the life of the solenoid valve.

18. Always connect the electrical circuit to a suitable fuse or circuit breaker for protection against overloads and short circuits.
