The field work of the western coal survey project in Jixian County, Henan Province, has recently passed the acceptance test. According to preliminary estimates, the coal resources within the self-contained exploration area have reached 14.46 billion tons. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first coal assembly survey project conducted in the province. The project was divided into 12 sub-projects and involved extensive fieldwork covering an area of 2,277.22 square kilometers. A total of 72 drill holes were set up, with over 100,340 meters of drilling footage and 44,700 physical exploration points. The Henan Coal Mining General Institute took full technical responsibility for the project, coordinating efforts from 10 geological exploration units across the region.
By August, the entire field work for the western coal census project had been completed successfully. The project included 52,666 two-dimensional seismic survey points, with a drilling workload of 101,686.74 meters across 68 holes, and a logging workload of 101,485.17 meters. According to initial assessments, the total coal resources in the region—classified as (333)+(334)—amount to 14.46 billion tons. This includes 1.972 billion tons of shallow resources within 1,500 meters, 7.003 billion tons of resources between 1,500 and 2,000 meters, and 5.485 billion tons of deep resources below 2,000 meters.
This achievement not only highlights the potential of coal resources in the western part of Henan but also sets a new standard for future coal exploration projects in the region. The successful completion of this large-scale survey provides valuable data for energy planning and resource management, reinforcing the importance of systematic geological surveys in supporting sustainable development.
