According to data released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on the 17th, the country's automobile production and sales both surpassed 1.9 million units in September, continuing a trend of strong growth. From January to September, total auto production rose by 12.8%, while sales increased by 12.7% year-on-year.
In September alone, the nation produced 1,926,600 vehicles and sold 1,935,800 units, marking a 16% increase in production and a significant 19.7% rise in sales compared to the same period last year. Passenger car sales saw an even stronger performance, growing by 21.1% year-on-year. Notably, sales of cars with engines of 1.6 liters or smaller reached 1.0292 million units, making up 64.58% of the passenger car market.
An interesting development is that sales of domestically branded passenger cars grew by 8.3% in September, accounting for 38.2% of the overall market. This represents a slight decline in market share compared to the same period last year, as the occupancy rate dropped by 4.5 percentage points. Despite this, the continued growth of domestic brands highlights their increasing competitiveness in the Chinese auto sector. The overall positive trends in production and sales reflect a robust recovery in the automotive industry, driven by consumer demand and supportive government policies.
