As spring and summer arrive, so does the heat, putting wooden furniture in your home through a real test. With rising temperatures, issues such as dirt, scratches, cracks, and even warping can appear, making the look of your furniture less appealing. While most problems are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, minor issues can be handled on your own. However, it's still essential to take proper care of your wooden furniture to prevent damage and save time and resources.

Here are eight effective ways to maintain your wooden furniture, shared by the author for your reference.

1. Always use a soft cloth to wipe dust off the furniture, following the grain of the wood. Before cleaning, mist the cloth slightly with water or a mild cleaner. Avoid rubbing too hard, as this may scratch the surface.

2. In dry environments, consider manually adding moisture to the air. For example, regularly dampen a soft cloth and gently wipe the furniture to maintain its condition.

3. Apply wax periodically—every 6 to 12 months. Use a paste wax and apply a thin layer. Before waxing, make sure to remove any old wax using a gentle, non-alkaline soap solution.

4. Place a mat under hot dishes or cookware to protect the surface from spills, stains, or heat damage.

5. Avoid contact with corrosive liquids on the furniture’s surface, as they can cause permanent damage.

6. Keep the room well-ventilated and dry to prevent mold and mildew from forming on the furniture.

7. Do not expose wooden furniture to direct sunlight for long periods, nor place it in overly dry areas, as this can lead to cracking or warping.

8. For large cabinets like wardrobes or bookshelves, avoid placing heavy items on top, as this may cause the doors to warp or not close properly.
