Shower room tempered glass deposits three thousandths of self-detonation rate

In recent years, the shower room has become a popular feature in modern bathrooms due to its compact design and hygienic convenience. However, beneath this comfort lies a hidden danger. In December last year, a family in Fujian experienced a terrifying incident when a glass sliding door in their shower suddenly shattered while they were taking a bath. The broken glass caused serious injuries to their hands and feet. Then, in March of this year, another shocking event occurred in Shenyang—during the middle of the night, a glass door in a shower room broke without anyone being present. Glass shards were scattered everywhere, creating a dangerous situation. These incidents highlight a growing concern: tempered glass used in shower doors can unexpectedly shatter, acting like a time bomb in the bathroom. A recent consumer survey revealed that over 50% of people are unaware of the potential dangers associated with shower room glass. Tempered glass is produced by heating regular glass to high temperatures and then rapidly cooling it. This process makes it much stronger than ordinary glass. However, there's an industry-known fact: tempered glass has a self-explosion rate of about 3 per thousand. Even if the glass passes all quality checks, there’s still a small chance it could break on its own. Several factors can trigger this sudden shattering. Uneven pressure on the glass during installation or use can lead to cracks or explosions. Direct impact from hard or sharp objects can also cause it to break. While tempered glass is more resistant to impacts and has higher surface hardness, even minor damage can significantly weaken its structure, making it more prone to breaking entirely. To reduce the risk, avoid placing sharp or heavy objects near the shower area. Also, don’t hit the glass with anything pointed or hard. When there's a large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors, make sure to turn on the exhaust fan after showering to remove hot air and moisture. This helps prevent sudden temperature changes that could stress the glass and lead to spontaneous breakage. When opening or closing the shower door, avoid applying excessive force, as this may cause the door to loosen or fall off. Regular maintenance is essential—clean the tracks, rollers, and sliders frequently. If the door feels stiff, apply lubricant to keep it smooth. Check the adjustment screws for rust and ensure they’re properly tightened or replaced if necessary. This ensures the door moves safely and securely. Lastly, when cleaning the glass, avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as they can scratch or dull the surface. Taking these precautions can help keep your shower room safe and functional for years to come.
