National Superhard Materials Engineering Center was commended by the Ministry of Science and Technology

Abstract On December 11, 2012, the Ministry of Science and Technology released the results of the fourth operational evaluation for the National Engineering Technology Research Centers (NERTCs). Among them, the National Engineering Research Center for Superhard Materials and Products, established based on the Zhengzhou Abrasives and Grinding Research Institute, received high recognition for its outstanding performance. The center was praised for its strong research capabilities and will continue to receive support from the government.

This fourth evaluation focused on 134 engineering centers that had passed national acceptance and had been operating for more than two years before 2008. The purpose of the assessment was to encourage healthy competition and establish a system of rewards and penalties. As a result, 67 centers with excellent scores were recognized and will benefit from ongoing funding through the National Science and Technology Support Program.

The National Engineering Research Center for Superhard Materials and Products has made significant contributions in addressing major national needs, gathering top talent and resources, enhancing engineering and industrialization capabilities, strengthening industry services, promoting open sharing, and improving management systems. It has achieved remarkable outcomes. With 178 technical professionals and a well-structured R&D team, the center completed 20 national projects during the evaluation period, participated in revising 39 national and industry standards, filed 23 patents, and won two provincial-ministerial awards and two national key new products.

The center also added 138 new pieces of equipment, established four pilot bases and 12 production lines, and completed the first phase of the "Superhard Material Industrialization Base." This facility has become an important platform for testing and technology transfer. Through direct commercialization and external technology transfer, the center has transferred 50 technologies to the industry, collaborated with nearly 20 universities and enterprises, provided 21,870 product inspections, and offered 1,587 training sessions.

In addition, the center actively participates in industry exhibitions, technical forums, and domestic and international exchange seminars, significantly enhancing its influence. Its role as a leader, driver, and model in the superhard materials and products industry has become increasingly evident, demonstrating its growing impact on both the national and global stage.
