In the current industrial design process, all product-related information within the target model or product model can be exported. This includes structural and manufacturing data, which can then be used according to the specific purpose of each piece of information. However, it is expected that future industrial design will no longer rely on traditional assembly or component drawings. Despite this, there are still three main reasons why this transition is not yet possible: First, existing 3D CAD systems do not yet provide all the necessary data for a complete product description and manufacturing process. These requirements can only be gradually met as 3D design systems continue to evolve. Second, not all internal or external teams have the infrastructure needed to directly use these advanced models. Third, due to the intuitive and goal-oriented nature of these models, some information must still be presented through traditional drawings. Nevertheless, the traditional part drawing as the sole technical documentation will soon become obsolete, marking the end of an era that designers have long been familiar with.
Looking ahead, future industrial product design models will go beyond just geometric descriptions. They will be more comprehensive, capable of simulating not only the physical structure of a product but also its operational behavior. For example, a nylon conveyor belt model can represent both the actual production state and the performance characteristics during use. Some specific models include: 1) studying rigid body dynamics in assembly functions; 2) identifying dynamic deformation and stress states under spring and damping conditions; 3) analyzing thermal expansion and heat load through temperature models; 4) simulating corrosion and wear effects; and 5) using multi-action models to describe processes that enhance product quality. The goal of industrial design modeling is to capture every feature of the product as completely as possible. To achieve this more efficiently and at lower cost, faster, cheaper computers and innovative software are essential. It's becoming increasingly tempting to simulate a product's operation and its entire lifecycle in advance, aiming to create a real-world product that closely matches its intended use.
