In the first five months, the import stone of Shihu Port in Quanzhou ranked second in the country.

Quanzhou, Fujian Province Inspection and Quarantine Bureau released a report on the 6th showing that from January to May this year, the import volume of stone through Quanzhou Shihu Port reached 1.4996 million tons, valued at $198 million. This marks an impressive increase of 180.4% and 157.3% respectively compared to the same period last year, setting a new record for the port in terms of import volume. According to officials from the bureau, the amount of stone imported through Shihu Port now accounts for more than one-third of the country’s total, making it the second-largest stone import hub after Xiamen. The majority of the stones arriving at Shihu Port are Indian block stones, including popular varieties such as Indian Red, British Brown, Black Gold Sand, Red Brown, Abang Stone, and Symphony Red (Purple). Located near Nan’an City, the largest stone distribution center in China, and Hui’an County, known as the hometown of Chinese stone carving, Shihu Port benefits from a strategic geographical position. Compared to Xiamen Port, Shihu offers shorter distances and lower transportation costs, which has led some stone trading companies from Xiamen to shift their operations there. As a result, the influence of stone distribution from Shihu is becoming increasingly significant. In addition, with the completion of Yard No. 4 and the introduction of advanced loading and unloading equipment, the port's capacity for handling, transporting, and storing imported stone has significantly improved. The bureau also emphasized its efforts in enhancing safety measures by conducting strict radiation testing on all imported stone. They have introduced a new model of quarantine supervision to ensure product quality and efficiency. By implementing multi-point inspection methods at terminals and container yards, they have improved customs clearance speed and created a more favorable business environment for enterprises, further boosting the growth of stone imports through Shihu Port.
