This classification ensures that each type of measuring plate is suitable for specific applications, maintaining high precision and quality. In addition, the term "culture plate" is used in microbiology to refer to a solid medium used for growing microorganisms, typically in a sterile petri dish. Though unrelated to mechanical measuring tools, this usage shows how the word "plate" can have multiple meanings depending on context.
