China's photo-thermal power generation reaches an international level

The National Energy Administration recently conducted a scientific and technological achievement appraisal of the “Key Technology and Demonstration of Trough Solar Collector System” project completed by Changzhou Longteng Solar Thermal Power Equipment Co., Ltd. in Beijing. It is believed that related technology products and integrated technologies have been used in China's solar thermal power generation projects. With large-scale application capabilities.

Xu Jianzhong, director of the appraisal committee and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stated that the technical achievements have generally reached the international advanced level, and it is recommended to speed up the industrialization of the technological achievements and the demonstration and application of the projects and promote the construction of the CSP projects.

The achievement of this project marks China's breakthrough in the integration of trough thermal power generation lighting system and key industrial components such as core production, providing technical and economic feasibility guarantees for the construction of large-scale solar thermal power plants in China, with huge Promote the prospects.

In 2012, Changzhou Longteng Solar self-financed and used its own products and technologies to invest in the construction of the first demonstration project of commercial trough concentrating heat-collection system in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The demonstration project is the world's first trough concentrating and heat-collection system demonstration project in regions with high latitude, high altitude, wind and sand, and severe cold, and the project has passed the authority of the German Aerospace Center DLR. The on-site inspection and certification conducted by the dispatched team of engineers is of great significance to the construction and operation of large-scale commercial solar thermal power stations in the central and western regions of China.

The main project completion personnel Yu Ke, general manager of Changzhou Longteng Solar Thermal Power Equipment Co., Ltd., said that the heat collection field system is the core system of the solar thermal power station and accounts for 40%-50% of the entire power plant investment, and determines the final output of the entire power station. . Our heat collection demonstration project was successfully constructed and operated, and through testing and appraisal, it has reached the international commercial power station's performance level, indicating that China's CSP technology and equipment have made major breakthroughs in domestic production and use in the central and western regions. With actual experience and data, it has laid the foundation and economics related to the integration of the core component industry and the heat collection field for the goal of achieving the 1,000 MW installed capacity in the 12th Five-Year Plan of China and reduced the technical risks of large-scale commercial power plants.

Photothermal power generation is an abbreviation for concentrating solar thermal power generation. It is a technology that uses a concentrating heat-collecting system to efficiently absorb solar thermal energy, and then uses a conventional thermoelectric conversion method to scale-up and generate power.

Yu Ke introduced that compared to other new energy generation methods, its technical advantages are mainly reflected in: First, the high efficiency of solar energy utilization, the light-heat conversion efficiency of the concentrating heat-collection system has been greater than 70%; Second, the technology compatibility is good and can be Coal-fired power plants, natural gas, biomass, and other conventional thermal power stations implement system access and combined cycle; Third, continuous power generation can be achieved through large-scale heat storage, and the technology of heat storage is mature and low-cost; existing power plants have realized continuous 24-hour power generation; It is a commercial operation with rich experience and less technical risks. Fifth, there is a large space for cost reduction. The World Bank’s report predicts that the cost of electricity for long-term CSP will be reduced to 6-8 cents. Currently, the commercial power price of the newly-built power station abroad The equivalent of 1.2-1.5 yuan / degree, after the realization of industrialization in China will even be greatly reduced.

In view of the incomparable advantages of CSP technology in combination with thermal power to reduce energy consumption and large-scale stable grid-connected power generation, China has explicitly proposed to implement it in 2015 in the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan for Renewable Energy Development”. The installed capacity of CSP is 1000MW, and it is planned to achieve an installed capacity of 3000MW by 2020.

According to this plan, the newly-added power station construction investment will be approximately RMB 30 billion, which will greatly stimulate the iron and steel industry, logistics, and construction industries. At the same time, it will make tremendous contributions to industrial upgrading, energy conservation, and environmental protection.

“But at present, there are many potential light and heat projects in the country. Generally, they are based on foreign experience for design and feasibility studies. They lack the support of the domestic industry chain. Therefore, the cost remains high on the one hand and whether one of the foreign products can withstand domestic sandstorms and severe cold. The harsh environment is also questionable, so so far there has not been a 50MW power plant actually put into construction.” Yu Ke said.

From an international point of view, the concentrating thermal power generation market is in a period of rapid growth. As of the first half of 2013, the United States, Spain, Australia and other countries have already installed more than 3 GW of installed power stations, more than 2 GW of power stations are under construction, and the planned projects exceed 30 GW. The market has broad prospects. Large multinational corporations such as Google, Abengoa of Spain, Total of France, AGC of Japan and ACWA of Saudi Arabia have participated in the emerging CSP market through acquisitions and joint ventures.

Yu Ke introduced that solar thermal power generation and photovoltaic power generation belong to the solar energy industry but they are completely different. The main differences are as follows:

First, the technical principles of photo-thermal power generation and photovoltaic power generation are different. Photovoltaics is the use of photovoltaic modules for direct photoelectric conversion; while solar thermal power is mainly for light to heat conversion, the way of power generation using conventional thermoelectric methods.

The second is the different utilization efficiency of solar energy. At present, the photovoltaic conversion efficiency of photovoltaic modules is usually 15% to 18%, and the annual efficiency of photovoltaic power stations is usually 10% to 15%; while the photothermal conversion efficiency of solar thermal power generation modules is already greater than 70%, which is common in industrial heat applications. The total utilization rate of solar energy is more than 65%, and the annual efficiency of solar thermal power plants is usually 15%-20%.

The third is the application of different areas. Photovoltaic applications in building integration and distributed energy; and the application of solar thermal power in the basic store supply, conventional power plant combined cycle and industrial heating and so on.

Fourth, the difference between the industry chain. The photovoltaic industry chain is a relatively independent industrial chain that intersects with other industries less, while the CSP industry chain is an upgrade and optimization of traditional industries, and it has greatly stimulated the downstream industrial chain, such as steel, glass, high-end equipment manufacturing, and chemical products. And engineering, power products and engineering, logistics and so on.

Following the invitation to bid for the “50 MW trough solar project in Inner Mongolia”, the first contingent power project in China, the five major power groups represented by China Huadian and Huaneng Group and other power companies are developing and planning CSP projects. . Experts believe that establishing an industrial chain based on China's independent technologies, products, and equipment is the basis and key to promoting the rapid development of the entire industry.

Yu Ke said that the promotion of the commercialized market in the future will depend mainly on the electricity price policy for solar thermal power generation. However, the introduction of this electricity price policy also needs to be based on domestic industrialization and the cost of realizing the project. Therefore, to promote an exemplary solar thermal power station based on domestically produced products and technologies, based on the cost and operating status of this power station, the development of an industrial policy that conforms to the current status of China's light and heat industry is a shortcut to promote the development of the industry.

Established in 2009, Royal Tech CSP Limited is headquartered in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province and specializes in R&D and commercialization of concentrating solar technology. Its business covers high-temperature collector tubes, trough concentrators, and heat conduction. The production and sale of core products such as oil and the investment and engineering of CSP projects.
