Mitsubishi offers unequal spiral end mills for aircraft

The Mitsubishi Materials Tool has introduced a 6-blade circular end mill with the same unequal spiral shape by adding a pair of 4-inch cutter heads to the 4-head end mill "VF-MHV" with a spiral shape. VF-6HVRB". This new product can efficiently process difficult-to-cut materials such as stainless steel and titanium alloys used in aircraft parts.

The VF-MHV is characterized by an unequal spiral shape that combines different helix angles. This reduces vibration and enables efficient machining of difficult-to-cut materials. This time, for the deep processing use, a pair of "reverse-section" 4-inch cutter heads with a smaller shank diameter than the outer diameter are added. Since the shank of the peripheral edge adopts a curved blade, the step difference in the vertical wall processing is reduced.

In terms of VF-6HVRB, in order to improve the deep processing efficiency, the number of cutter heads has increased to six. Especially in the side processing, the efficiency is improved. In order to meet the production requirements of a large number of aircraft components, the corners of the new product are designed in a circular arc shape.

Both new products feature a coating with excellent heat resistance. Thus, the friction coefficient is lowered while the film hardness and oxidation resistance are improved, whereby high-precision, high-grade processing can be realized.
