Discussion on the skill and assembly of the rod bolt hole in the vertical lathe

The program outlines the following key steps: a) The existing Z525 vertical drilling machine is used for processing equipment. b) Both the bolt body of the connecting rod and the connecting rod cover are processed simultaneously, with matching parts paired after completion. c) The positioning reference is based on the already machined small end hole, one side of the large end, and one end of the connecting rod. d) When expanding and reaming, upper and lower guide sleeves are utilized, allowing linear displacement at a fixed point. e) The connecting rod body and cover are clamped together to complete the drilling, expansion, and reaming of both bolt holes in one operation. Tooling design plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of the process and maintaining precision. After thorough analysis, we developed specialized fixtures and tools. The clamping system uses upper and lower guide sleeves, which are mounted on the base slide table and controlled by cylinders to limit movement and ensure accurate positioning, as shown in Figure 2. Reaming tools are specifically designed according to process parameters and fixture layout, as illustrated. The tool coupling with the machine spindle is slightly floating to guarantee precise guidance. Key components of the fixture include: 1. Limit screw, 2. Fixture base, 3. Limit block, 4. Clamp assembly, 5. Positioning pin, 6. Open platen, 7. Positioning shaft, 8. Screw, 9. Upper guide sleeve, 10 & 11. Adjustment screws, 12. Lower guide sleeve, 13. Cylinder. Process parameters and operational details: For drilling to a diameter of 7.8 mm, the spindle speed is set at 660 rpm with a feed rate of 0.2 mm/rev. For reaming to 8.1 mm, the same spindle speed is used with manual feed. For final reaming to 8.2+0.015 mm, the spindle speed increases to 1250 rpm, again using manual feed. Basic operating procedure: a) Clean the fixture and workpiece positioning area, then install the connecting rod body, cover, and open platen. Adjust screws 10 and 11 to position the workpiece, and tighten the compression nut to secure it. b) Drill the first hole using a 7.8 mm drill bit. After drilling, switch the cylinder valve to move the clamp to the second bolt hole position and drill the second hole. c) Replace the reamer with an 8.1 mm bit and the upper guide sleeve, then repeat the process to enlarge both holes to 8.1 mm. d) Similarly, change the reamer and upper guide sleeve for the final reaming operation. e) Apply the required cutting fluid according to the specified process parameters. In summary, this process for drilling, expanding, and reaming the connecting rod bolt holes is simple, cost-effective, and only requires slightly more advanced tooling and guiding systems. Our factory has produced over 20,000 units of the 462Q connecting rods using this method. All bolt hole machining follows this process and tooling setup. After testing and mass production, the results fully meet product specifications, reducing the need for additional equipment investment. It ensures that production targets are met in terms of both quality and quantity. This process has also been successfully applied to other models in our factory, yielding excellent results.
